A Few Words About Voting In Maryland District 36

These fine folks are all running for office. That’s me on the left, with 3 of my running mates. To my left is Michelle Ravert and Crystal Woodward, - also running for House of Delegates, and Nivek Johnson, who is running for State Senate from District 36.You can vote for all three. Please do! Our current delegates have accomplished very little for us; we hope to do better for 36. #betterfor36 Nivek Johnson, Crystal Crismond Woodward, Michelle Ravert

Platform and Issues

Political Honesty – No more lying to or about each other

Politicians, especially when doing their jobs, need to tell the people and each other the truth. I’m tired of all the lies, and the lies saying others are lying when they’re not.

Very few policy positions are being advertised by the Republican Party. They are lying and exaggerating about Democrats, especially about Governor Moore. He did not cause the increase in the cost of electricity. Ask me for the details if you want to know more.

I pledge not to lie to or about Republicans and any others.

Everyone Counts! Every race, culture, color, shade, language, & belief

I’m for some things I don’t think I should need to be for. All folks should count, and by all, I mean all, or any, with no qualifications. Like in the U.S. Constitution, and the bible:

“Come   unto me, ALL who labor…”

“…nor   shall any State deprive ANY person of life, liberty, or property, without due   process of law; nor deny to ANY person within its jurisdiction the equal   protection of the laws.” [I’ve added the capitalization for emphasis.]

All means all. Any means any.

If someone is stopping you on the streets, threatening to shoot you if you don’t comply, or breaking your car window and dragging you out, or coming in your door, you are absolutely in the jurisdiction. Therefore, everyone here, documented, undocumented, citizen, non-citizen, criminal, completely innocent, it does not matter. You get the rights. You get the constitution.

You get complete due process -- law, courts, trials, everything.

You get the rights -- speech, no illegal searches or seizures, the whole constitution -- THE EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAWS!

We have not always lived up to these laws, to these promises, but they are the law.

I intend to do what I can to follow these ideals, to see that our state follows them, and to insist that our state require the national government to abide by them, at very least inside our borders.

End Overdevelopment & Sprawl

Provide incentives to re-develop in town.

When we permit development out of town, require services, sidewalks, bike & walking paths and trails. There’s no way to know and be neighbors if we only ride by at a distance.

Keep the woodlands, swamps, and marshes.

Keep the wild places. Wild places clean the air and water -- nobody will want to buy our sewer-side housing after we kill everything.

Developers Pay for Infrastructure

Developers must provide the infrastructure needed to support the development they do:

  • Roads -- at least two ways in and out of developments, and widening where necessary to carry the traffic they add.
  • Add clean and sewer water supply to provide for additional population.
  • Contribution to school districts for increased student populations.

Education for Trades, Sciences, Arts, & Humanities

Education/Apprenticeship for trades and traditional college tracks in public schools, colleges, and universities throughout the district -- jobs won’t come here without an educated workforce.

Affordable Housing, Healthcare, & Electricity

No private equity firm ownership of residential housing.

No for-profit health care.

No data centers without holding us harmless in electricity demand, water use, noise and heat pollution.

Who Is This Nevin Crouse Person?

About Nevin

Recently retired after teaching 33 years at Chesapeake College.  Previously worked on Capitol Hill at the American Hospital Association.  Grew up in Easton, Maryland, and the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Went to college at Mount Vernon Nazarene, in the boonies outside of Columbus, Ohio [majoring in History, Religion, and Spanish], and did my Master's degree level work at the University of Missouri at Kansas City [go Roos!], and the University of Nebraska [go Antelopes!], majoring in History and Art History, with minors in Geography and Spanish.

Wife, Lynnette, is the office manager and volunteer at Positive Strides therapeutic horseback riding center.  They have a 15 year old at home. I play 12-string and tenor guitars a bit, and occasionally play the bandoneon [Google it, if interested]. I have sung and cooked professionally.

While getting his degrees, He worked as the outreach minister at Grace & Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, in charge of feeding unhoused and whatever other folks came to the door Monday through Friday at noon, usually about two hundred and twenty-five. He has  worked everywhere from daycare centers, mental/criminal halfway houses, to Capitol Hill, DC, and finds those three places can be remarkably similar.

Nevin likes to ride bikes, motor and pedal, eat fried chicken and potato salad, and watch cooking shows -- wishes they'd make many more "Great British Baking Shows."  Loves streaming, because there aren't usually commercials telling you you're not good enough unless you buy whatever they're selling. His fav movies are When Harry Met Sally, Princess Bride, and Die Hard. It ain't Christmas until Hans falls off the tower.

Nevin said -- “The biggest thing I've learned in all this is that those with the most wealth spend some of it making sure we’re angry with and afraid of each other. This keeps us divided. We are being lied to -- that kids can decide to be gay, or trans, and that somehow harms others. That someone else getting healthcare will make us poorer, or is done at our expense, when the places that have publicly funded care pay less than we do for better service. That those who aren't white are getting more than white folks, and don't deserve it. That we are all in constant danger, so we need multiple firearms to protect ourselves. That immigrants are the problem. The latest big lie is that Governor Moore is somehow to blame for the price of electricity. These lies always do the same thing -- they keep us afraid, and angry about it, with someone easy to blame, so we can hate on them. I want to examine and work on the actual problems we face. Democrats can do that because we don't need to prove we're hurting someone you're angry with and afraid of to win your vote.”
